Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a joint press conference with his Polish counterpart that his country is committed to the defense of Ukraine. |
Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau promised to increase his country’s military budget in a speech today (Monday) and said that there are more things we need to do in the current situation.
He, who is in Poland, in a joint press conference with Donald Tusk, his Polish counterpart, called on other Western countries to deal with the Russian threat.
The Prime Minister of Canada addressed the people and government of Poland and said that we, along with our allies, will ensure that our armed forces have the necessary equipment and support.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk also asked Canada and other Western countries to continue their support for Ukraine.
He said: Ukraine can resist Russia only if it is supported by the member countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Canada has long faced pressure from NATO member countries to allocate 2 percent of its GDP for military purposes. NATO expects all member countries of this organization to be able to achieve this goal by the end of this year.
Canada’s military budget is currently about 1.3% of the country’s GDP. Trudeau, who spent Saturday in Kiev, announced Ottawa’s continued support for Ukraine.
