United Nations: Gaza is on the brink of famine
A UN humanitarian official says the population of Gaza is facing severe food shortages and that famine is "inevitable" without serious measures. |
Ramesh Rajasingham, Director of Coordination of the United Nations Humanitarian Office regarding the lack of food in the Gaza Strip caused by the siege of the Zionist regime and bombings said: “One out of every six children under the age of two in northern Gaza suffers from acute malnutrition. suffers”.
According to Reuters, this UN official warned: “At least a quarter of the population of the Gaza Strip is one step away from famine.” Virtually all of Gaza’s 2.3 million people rely on food aid to survive, which is woefully inadequate.”
He says the UN and aid groups are facing “enormous obstacles” in getting even the bare minimum supplies to the Gaza Strip. According to him, these obstacles include crossings, restrictions on the movement of food trucks, inspections, damaged roads and unexploded ammunition.
Earlier, Michael Fakhri, the UN special rapporteur on human rights to proper nutrition, said that the Zionist regime is deliberately starving the people of Gaza. He said that deliberately depriving people of food is “clearly a war crime” and that Israel has declared its intention to destroy the Palestinian people.
