reported by Mehr News Agency, citing Anatoly, members of criminal gangs attacked the “Croix des Bukits” prison in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, which led to a mass escape of prisoners from this prison and the death of 12 prisoners. 3,600 prisoners managed to escape from the prison. Armed attackers fled from the area as a result of police resistance.
According to reports, 17 Colombian citizens were also in this prison and the Colombian government is in contact with the Haitian authorities.
According to local media, four police officers were killed in a clash with armed attackers and dozens were injured.
Following the escape of thousands of prisoners, the Haitian government issued a statement declaring a state of emergency and curfew. This statement states that “the government of the Republic, referring to the decree of March 3, 2024, declares a state of emergency throughout the western part of the country, which includes the capital, for seventy-two hours that can be extended”
In another part of this statement, it is emphasized that “the curfew is in effect throughout the territory between 6:00 PM and 5:00 AM local time on Mondays.” , Tuesday and Wednesday will also be established on a Saturday from 20:00 local time to 5:00 am.”
