The quarterly meeting of the Board of Governors began in Vienna
The quarterly meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency started today (Monday) with the presence of representatives of 35 member countries of this council in Vienna. |
In this meeting, which continues until Friday, various issues about nuclear safety, the implementation of the safeguard agreement and the strengthening of scientific and research activities of the Agency are on the agenda. This meeting, as in previous periods, deals with nuclear activities in North Korea, Syria, as well as the ECOS security agreement.
The issue of Iran is one of the topics mentioned in the agenda of the council according to the previous meetings, and the verification and inspection of Iran’s nuclear activities is supposed to be examined in the light of UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and the implementation of the safeguards agreement.
The meeting of the Council will be held behind closed doors as in the past, and Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, will give a speech about the latest activities of this organization. Then, according to the procedure of each period, he will appear in the group of reporters to answer the questions.
Grossi claimed in a report last week that Iran’s enriched uranium reserves have decreased over the past three months. According to this report, Iran’s uranium reserves with 60% purity decreased by 6.8 kg compared to three months ago and reached 121.5 kg. According to this report, Iran has diluted 31.8 kg of uranium enriched to 60% to produce 97.9 kg of 20% uranium.
The confidential report also states that Iran’s enriched uranium reserves have increased by 1,038.7 kg since the previous report, reaching 5,525.5 kg.
In another part, Iran’s compensatory measures in the JCPOA are mentioned and it is stated that Iran’s enriched uranium reserves have reached 27 times the limit set in the 2014 agreement.
In the meantime, Iran took steps under the supervision of the Agency to reduce its obligations in order to balance the implementation of this agreement, 2 years after the unilateral withdrawal of the United States from the JCPOA and the delay of the European parties in fulfilling their obligations in this agreement.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has always emphasized that the measures taken are reversible, and whenever the other parties fully fulfill their obligations, Iran will also reciprocate.
Mohsen Naziri, our country’s ambassador to the international organizations based in Vienna, told IRNA not long ago: “Despite the space developments, the Islamic Republic of Iran has an exemplary cooperation with the agency.” He clarified: “This statistic is very high and is unprecedented among the countries that implement the Comprehensive Safeguard Agreement.”
