A few days ago, the international community once again witnessed another unfair use of the veto by the United States during the voting of the draft resolution (S/2024/ 173) presented by Algeria, which called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire. Despite widespread support from member states and nations around the world, the United States shamefully used its veto against the resolution. The actions of the US government in this regard will undoubtedly not be forgotten by nations and history.
 
The Islamic Republic of Iran appreciates the valuable efforts of Algeria in the Security Council, especially in dealing with the current situation in Gaza. We appreciate their initiative in presenting a strong draft resolution aimed at achieving the long-awaited ceasefire. We also express our gratitude to the 13 members of the Council who voted in favor of the draft resolution supporting the ceasefire in Gaza.

The deteriorating situation in Gaza has attracted widespread attention in the international community. The Israeli regime uses starvation as a deliberate method of war against the civilian population of Gaza. Unfortunately, the silence of the Security Council has turned into a license to kill and starve the Palestinian people.
 
In addition, the international community has condemned the Israeli regime’s decision to attack Rafah, which has had dire consequences for this densely populated area. , is extremely worried. In addition, the actions of the Israeli regime in Lebanon and Syria, which are contrary to international law and the United Nations Charter, have intensified tensions and increased concerns about instability in the region.

Islamic Republic of Iran It strongly condemns the recent brutal attack by Israeli regime forces against Palestinian civilians who were trying to receive humanitarian aid. This deliberate attack has killed 117 and wounded around 750 civilians. All this cruelty has happened in the absence of a ceasefire which is requested by many. We must address exactly the obstacle that the world has witnessed and that has hindered the efforts of the Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities.

It is unfortunate that the United States has decided to turn a blind eye to the facts and unabashedly support the ongoing genocide of the Israeli regime. America even ignores global requests.
