Ali Sadegh, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sudan, said: This country has no fundamental objection to the establishment of a Russian military base in Sudan.
He added: Khartoum has no fundamental objections to the agreements made by the previous government and adheres to them.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Sudan told the Russian news agency “Sputnik”: After holding national elections in Sudan, the new parliament will announce its opinion on the agreement to establish a Russian naval base in Sudan.
He stated: We believe that a new parliament should be convened to review the said agreement and announce its positive opinions to the government, so we have suspended the issue of establishing a Russian naval base until the new parliament is convened.
He pointed to the army’s operations in Omdurman (a part of Khartoum located east of the Nile River) and said: this area is almost completely devoid of the presence of troops. The rapid response has been cleared and we hope that several areas of Khartoum that are under the control of these forces will be liberated in the coming days. They captured the capital of Sudan, and only a few limited areas such as the army headquarters and the military weapons area in the south of Omdurman were under the control of the army, so General Abdul Fattah Burhan, the head of the Sudanese governing council, left Khartoum and went to the port of Port Sudan (the next most important city). He went from the capital and took over the administration of Sudan’s affairs from there.
General Burhan ordered a nationwide attack on the rapid reaction forces about a month ago. issued and the army forces managed to free a large part of Omdurman from the control of the rapid reaction forces during the last two weeks.
