Hamas: We will not fall short of our terms
The representative of the Hamas movement in Beirut said: If America and the Zionist regime do not want an agreement, we will continue to defend our nation. |
Ahmed Abdul Hadi, the representative of the Hamas movement in Lebanon, said in a statement on Tuesday: The ideas we put forward are in line with the ceasefire and any agreement will fulfill the conditions of the resistance.
He said: Netanyahu is not looking for any agreement, because it means the end of his political future, so he is trying to put obstacles in the way of negotiations and prolong the war.
In a conversation with al-Mayadeen network, Abdul Hadi emphasized that the ball is now in Washington’s court and he should put pressure on Netanyahu. He noted that the negotiations in Cairo are continuing and the Hamas movement made its proposals, but it turned out that there are many differences between the proposals. It has been raised and there are suggestions of resistance.
The representative of the Hamas movement in Lebanon added: The delegation of Hamas went to Cairo so that these negotiations will be a gateway to get closer to our ideas and we will not fall short.
He further noted: Our ideas are based on 2 things; The first is to stop the aggressions and killings, and the second is to meet the conditions of resistance.
Ahmed Abdul Hadi also said: Netanyahu is throwing stones in the way of negotiations and has even withdrawn from the Paris 2 plan. We want an honorable agreement, but if the Americans and Israelis do not want this, we will continue to defend our nation.
Earlier, Bassem Naim, one of the senior officials of Hamas, also told Reuters: The group submitted its proposals for a ceasefire agreement to the mediators during the two days of talks and is now waiting for the Israelis’ response, who were not in the negotiations.
Naim said: “Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu does not want to reach an agreement, and now the ball is in the Americans’ court to pressure him for an agreement.”
Tel Aviv has refused to comment publicly on the Cairo talks. A source told Reuters earlier that the Zionist regime did not attend the negotiations due to the fact that Hamas did not provide a list of prisoners.
Naeem said: “It is impossible to provide this list without a ceasefire, because the prisoners are scattered throughout the war zone and are kept by separate groups.”
The Cairo talks were seen as a last resort to achieve the first long ceasefire in the war.
Egyptian security sources said on Monday that they were still in contact with the Israelis to allow the talks to continue without the presence of the Israeli delegation. Washington, which is both Tel Aviv’s closest ally and supporter of the cease-fire talks, has said a deal approved by Israel is now on the table. Hamas has rejected this narrative as an attempt to deflect blame from Tel Aviv if the talks fail without an agreement.
The United States has also asked the Zionist regime to take more measures to reduce the humanitarian disaster in Gaza, where more than 30,000 people have been martyred as a result of the attacks of the Zionist regime.
