Interfax news agency, citing the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of South Siberia, reported that at least 18 people were injured in the explosion of the Shagunarskaya thermal power plant in Tava, Russia.
The explosion occurred early on Wednesday in a boiler room, which led to a fire. Workers have been evacuated from the factory.
Tuva Governor Vladislav Khovalig reported on his Telegram channel that as a result of this incident, at least 18 people were injured and taken to the hospital due to burns, of which 6 people are in serious condition. 3 people are missing and it is feared that they are trapped under the rubble after the explosion.
The fire with an area of 50 square meters was contained. The exact cause of the explosion and subsequent fire is currently under investigation.
The factory area is currently under police surveillance and emergency services are working on the site.
This incident led to the disconnection of hot water for local residents, and some were left without heating. The plant is still operational and local officials say hot water pumping will resume by evening.
