The withdrawal of one of the candidates of the Democratic Party from the American elections

Dean Phillips withdrew from the race for the Democratic nomination in the US presidential election due to the party's support for Biden.

Dean Phillips, a representative of the state of Minnesota, withdrew from the 2024 Democratic Party presidential primaries after confirming his support for US President Joe Biden.

According to the CNN report, Phillips wrote in a post on Platform X: I participated in Congress in 2018 to resist Donald Trump (former president) and in 2021 I was trapped in the Capitol because of Donald Trump and I ran for the presidency in 2024. To resist Donald Trump again, because Americans wanted an alternative and democracy needs choices.

He added: But it is clear that I am not a replacement. It is clear that Joe Biden is our candidate and our opportunity to show what kind of country America intends to be.

Phillips’ withdrawal leaves author Marian Williamson as Biden’s last challenger for the party’s nomination. On February 7, Biden suspended his campaign after winning his first official victory in the party’s primary in South Carolina.

But Williamson announced in a video clip that he was reversing his decision and resuming his campaign after beating Phillips in the Michigan primary.

He said: Starting today, I will cancel the suspension of my campaign for the American presidency. I put it on hold because I was losing the race, but there is something much more important. Competition is at stake here.
