American official: Gaza ceasefire negotiations have not yet failed

The American ambassador in the occupied territories claimed that the difference in the views of the negotiating parties is decreasing The talks have not yet reached a breaking point.

Jack Lowe, the US ambassador to the occupied territories, said at a conference in Tel Aviv hours after the Hamas delegation left Cairo: “The negotiations for a cease-fire in Gaza have not yet failed.”
“The difference [in views] is narrowing,” he said, according to AFP. No agreement has been reached yet. Everyone is looking at Ramadan, which is near. “I can’t tell you that [the talks] will be successful, but it’s not like it’s a failure yet.”

Hours ago, Hamas announced in a statement that its delegation had left Cairo. Egypt’s state-run Cairo news agency, quoting a high-ranking source, announced that the delegation had left Egypt to consult on the proposals and negotiations would resume next week.

Meanwhile, CNN news agency, citing one of the diplomats, described the negotiations as “very turbulent” and said: “The negotiators had hoped that a draft agreement would be written this week after several days of meetings in Cairo, but this It will not happen.” An American official also said in this regard: “The hope for an agreement is fading.”

The failure to reach an agreement happens after the US President had previously expressed hope that an agreement would be reached between the parties by Monday of last week. He later admitted that it is unlikely to reach an agreement in this short period of time.
