Simultaneous strike of rail and air transport workers in Germany
Following a strike by railway and airport workers in Germany, millions of travelers faced widespread disruptions in transportation today (Thursday). |
Employees of German rail and air transportation went on strike, which caused chaos for millions of passengers and added to the country’s economic problems.
According to Reuters, the strike of train drivers, which took place to reduce working hours, is supposed to continue until Friday evening.
Overall, about 80 percent of long-distance rail travel as well as regional and city trains in the country have been canceled, leading to traffic jams on the streets and problems for employees to get to work on time.
On the other hand, the strike of airport workers has also caused the cancellation of hundreds of flights.
Strikes in Germany happen while the central bank of this country has recently warned about the economic recession. It is said that the German economy has faced a decrease of 0.3% in the last quarter of 2023.
German Economy Minister Robert Haubeck announced at the beginning of this month that the country’s economy has been affected by a complete storm.
