Pentagon: The construction of the Gaza port will take approximately 60 days
According to the Pentagon spokesman, the construction of a temporary dock in Gaza requires 60 days and 1000 soldiers and sailors. |
General Patrick Ryder, a Pentagon spokesman, said that the construction of a temporary port system would take about 60 days “with the aim of expediting aid to Gaza”.
Stating that the extensive US operation requires the presence of soldiers and sailors, Ryder added: the said mission requires the participation of approximately 1,000 troops. He assured that even for a moment, even to secure the pier, not a single soldier will set foot on the shore of Gaza and the operation will be carried out offshore.
Previously, while announcing the construction of a temporary dock in Gaza, US President Joe Biden said that the boots of American soldiers will not be on Palestinian soil.
Ryder claimed that it is expected to facilitate the “delivery of about 2 million meals a day to the people of Gaza” once the temporary port becomes operational.
It is noteworthy that America has been Israel’s main ally in the occupation regime’s ongoing genocidal operation against the Palestinians in Gaza. A country that has sent billions of dollars in arms to Israel since the start of its genocidal war against Gaza is certainly capable of putting pressure on this entity, demanding an immediate ceasefire and unrestricted humanitarian aid.
Meanwhile, the Palestinians have expressed doubts about the European Union’s plan for the sea corridor and the American plan for the seaport, and they are worried that such actions will be a prelude to the presence of the international military in the Palestinian territory and the expulsion of the Palestinians under various pretexts.
In an apparent contradiction, while Ryder claimed that the person responsible for securing the pier remained unclear, US President Joe Biden told reporters that “Israel” would be responsible for securing the temporary port. If proven, the same occupier who is behind mass murder, genocide, starvation, famine, thousands of Gazans and forced displacement in Gaza will be responsible for the security of the very port that was built for aid to enter.
Israeli officials have not yet confirmed the details, though they welcomed Biden’s announcement of a maritime corridor for aid.
Ryder, however, noted that Washington is in talks with US allies to finalize the details. No cost estimates have been made, the spokesman said, and revealed that the United States is also in talks with non-governmental organizations, aid groups and the United Nations for the procurement and delivery of aid.
