According to the regional office of Tasnim News Agency, “Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman of the Taliban government, announced that the contract for the power transmission project from Central to South Asia, known as “CASA-1000”, was signed between Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan with the financial support of the World Bank.
According to this agreement, the rest of the project process was supposed to officially start in Afghanistan at the end of April, and it is expected that this project will be put into operation by the end of 2026.
CASA-1000 is one of the largest projects in Central Asia, which is supposed to transfer electricity from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan through 1250 km long energy transmission lines. In the framework of this plan, tens of kilometers of new power lines will be built in these countries.
At the same time, the Islamic Development Bank, one of the financiers of the project, also Emphasizing his commitment to speed up the implementation of the project, he announced on Thursday that the parts of this project in Pakistan and Tajikistan are nearing completion.
The total cost of this project, which will bring electricity from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Afghanistan and Pakistan, is estimated at more than one billion dollars, and the necessary credits are World Bank, Islamic Development Bank, European Investment Bank and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development are dedicated to this project.
