Mud, rock and uprooted trees rolled down a mountain late Friday and reached a river, causing it to overflow, said Doni Yusrizal, head of Indonesia’s local disaster management agency. In this regard, they flooded the mountain villages in the Besisar Selatan region.
According to Al-Nashrah’s report, he announced: By Saturday, rescuers had found seven bodies from Koto Tarosan village, which suffered the most damage, and three more bodies in two nearby villages. Providing aid to the dead and missing has been difficult due to power outages and closures, as the roads are covered with thick mud and debris.
On the other hand, the local disaster management agency said in a statement: rescuers found six bodies in Basisar Selatan and three more bodies in Padang Priyaman area, bringing the number of dead to 19.
He explained that at least two villagers were injured in the flood and rescuers were searching for seven missing people. The statement further stated that more than 80,000 people fled to temporary government shelters after floods and landslides submerged 14 houses, while 20,000 houses in nine districts and cities in West Sumatra province were under roofs. They sank into the water.
