Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on Sunday that 33 people were arrested in Sakarya province in the west of the country on suspicion of planning terrorist attacks before the municipal elections scheduled for March 31.
According to the RT report, a Turkish minister wrote on X social network: During the security operation against the ISIS terrorist organization in Sakarya province, 33 people suspected of having links with this organization were arrested.
Turkey’s interior minister added: It was proven that among those arrested were people who, on the eve of the elections, were preparing terrorist attacks, sending armed people to conflict areas, providing financial aid to terrorists, and running illegal mosques and schools.
Yerlikaya announced that weapons, ammunition, banned publications and a large amount of currency were seized during these inspections.
Before this, Turkey’s Anatolia news agency announced that Turkish forces in Ankara arrested 20 people suspected of having links with the ISIS terrorist group.
In the statement of the public prosecutor of Ankara, it is stated that the arrest of these suspects took place in the framework of the investigation that was started by the terrorism crimes department of this organization against a group suspected of having links with the terrorist ISIS.
This statement adds that the suspected group was operating in Ankara under the name “Tawheed Magazine”. Investigations with the suspects are currently ongoing at the anti-terrorism department in Ankara.
