Armenia is considering the possibility of joining the European Union
According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Yerevan is considering applying for membership in the European Union. |
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said Yerevan is considering applying for EU membership as it seeks closer ties with the West amid tensions with traditional ally Russia.
Mirzoyan said in an interview with Turkish TV channel TRT World: “Many new opportunities are being discussed in Armenia today, and if I say that membership in the European Union is included, it will not be a secret.”
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has deepened Armenia’s relations with Europe and the United States since coming to power in the 2018 revolution, and has repeatedly angered Russia.
Iran has repeatedly said its alliance with Moscow does not extend to the Ukraine war, while Pashinyan has accused Russia of seeking to undermine his government.
