Denmark also calls women to military service

The Danish government announced that to increase its defense forces, it will increase the duration of military service and call women to this service.

Denmark Prime Minister Matt Frederiksen, while presenting the defense plans of this NATO member country, announced that in order to increase the number of people who serve in the military, he will increase the duration of this service from 4 months to 11 months and make it mandatory for women as well. .

According to the Independent, the Danish Prime Minister also said that he will increase Denmark’s defense spending by 5.9 billion dollars in the next 5 years. He says that the purpose of increasing defense spending is not belligerence, but that the country is armed “to prevent war”.

Denmark is one of the founding members of NATO. The country reduced its defense capabilities after the end of the Cold War in the early 1990s, but after Russia invaded Ukraine, it announced that it would triple its military spending over the next 10 years.

According to official statistics, Denmark currently has 9,000 professional soldiers and 4,700 conscripts who are undergoing basic training.

Currently, all able-bodied males over the age of 18 in this country are called up for military service, which lasts approximately four months. However, there is a lottery among these people and not all go to the army.
