The claim of the American newspaper about the behind-the-scenes negotiations between Iran and the United States
An American newspaper, quoting Iranian and American officials, claimed that Washington arranged negotiations with Iran to prevent Yemeni attacks. |
Reports indicate that US President Joe Biden’s administration has held behind-the-scenes talks with Iran to seek Tehran’s help in pressuring Yemen to stop its attacks on commercial cargo ships in the Red Sea.

The Financial Times reported, citing unnamed American and Iranian officials, that the talks took place in Oman in January. Omani officials acted as intermediaries, going back and forth between American and Iranian negotiators so that they could communicate without direct contact.
Financial Times did not specify how Iran responded to the US request. Earlier, Iran emphasized that although Tehran provides political support to this Yemen, Sana’a acts independently.
Yemen attacks on Zionist ships or ships that go to the occupied territories continue despite the air strikes of the US-led military coalition against Yemen.
Yahya Saree, the spokesman of the Yemeni armed forces, has promised to stand against the escalation of tensions with the United States and England and will not hesitate to carry out comprehensive and effective military operations in revenge for any British-American stupidity against Yemen.
According to this report, the American negotiators, led by Brett McGurk, the White House’s West Asia adviser, and Abram Paley, the US representative for the West Asia, expressed concerns about the expansion of Iran’s nuclear program in these negotiations.
On the other hand, Ali Bagheri Keni, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, who is Tehran’s main nuclear negotiator, represented the Iranian delegation in Oman.
