Washington: We have communication channels with Tehran

The US assistant secretary of state said in a statement on Thursday that a new proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza is currently on the table and Washington is waiting for the response of the Hamas movement.

In a conversation with Sky News Arabic, he emphasized: “The only available solution is to create a Palestinian state alongside Israel.”

The US assistant secretary of state further noted: “The threats of the Houthis (Yemen’s Ansarullah) against shipping cannot be stopped quickly.”

This American official said in another part of his statement: “We have communication channels with Iran and we ask this country to prevent the spread of tensions.” We ask Iran to stop providing arms to the groups in the region such as the Houthis and Hezbollah.”

Iran has repeatedly stated that it does not have a proxy force in the region and the resistance groups act against the occupiers and the Zionist regime based on the interests of their countries.

Tehran has also emphasized that if the American support to the Zionist regime ends, the war in Gaza will be closed and the tension in the region should be reduced.

This American official went on to claim that “Hezbollah is leading Lebanon to a dangerous situation, and the United States wants the weapons to be in the hands of the Lebanese government and that Hezbollah is only a political party.”

He also said that Washington is trying for a 6-week ceasefire in Gaza and it is not acceptable to carry out military operations in the city of Rafah before the civilians are transferred to safe areas.

The US assistant secretary of state asserted that Israel is a sovereign country and should deal with Hamas: “We are not dictating anything to any side, but we are sending serious messages.”

According to the report of the Ministry of Health of Gaza, the number of martyrs in this area in the sixth month of the war has reached more than 31 thousand 272 people and the wounded have reached more than 73 thousand people.
