According to the international group Tasnim news agency, on Thursday Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who accompanied Defense Minister Yashar Guler and the head of the country’s intelligence organization Ibrahim Kalin have traveled to Baghdad and held a security meeting with Foreign Minister Fawad Hossein and his accompanying delegation. At the end of this meeting, a statement was issued in which it was mentioned: the security issues and concerns of the two countries, as well as the visit of Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Iraq after the month of Ramadan, were discussed. Actions were taken to reach the strategic level of Turkey-Iraq relations, the parties agreed that such meetings would be held periodically with the aim of being result-oriented, and it was also decided that the committees to deal with terrorism, trade, agriculture, energy, water , health and transportation to form and be in constant contact with each other.

The two countries emphasized on maintaining the territorial integrity of Iraq, respect for its sovereignty and political unity, and also emphasized the role of PKK as a security threat to the two countries and noted that the presence of this organization in the territory of Iraq It means violating the constitution of Iraq.

In this statement, Turkey welcomed the decision of the Iraqi National Security Council that the PKK is an illegal organization in Iraq. It was emphasized that the parties should discuss the measures to be taken against this organization and its satellites that target Turkey using Iraqi soil.

In the security meeting held between Iraq and Turkey in December 2023, Iraq announced the PKK as a “common threat” but this time defined it as an “illegal organization” for the first time.
