Donald Trump, who will be the Republican candidate in the upcoming US presidential elections, is on criminal trial in New York state on the charge of paying hush money to an immoral movie actor.
Juan Manuel Merchan, the American judge, wrote in the court document: The trial in this case was postponed for 30 days from the date of this letter (Friday) “with the consent of the people”.
According to Sputnik, this judge wrote: If necessary, the court will set a new trial date when it decides on the defendant’s request after the hearing.
The trial was supposed to begin on March 25, but will now begin in mid-April. This is one of the four criminal cases related to Trump that the Republican candidate is facing in the 2024 presidential election.
The judge’s decision to postpone the trial date was announced after the release of new documents related to the payment of hush money to “Stormy Daniels”, Trump’s lawyers and Manhattan prosecutors requested more time to review them.
These documents were released by federal judicial authorities who conducted a similar investigation in 2018. Trump’s lawyers had asked the court for 90 days. The prosecutor of the case had asked for 30 days and the judge agreed to the prosecutor’s request.
In its indictment, the Manhattan prosecutor has leveled 34 charges against Donald Trump. These accusations are related to the accusation of paying silence fees during the 2016 election campaign. Donald Trump has rejected these accusations and considers them political.
