The United States is investigating the role of “Metta” company in the sale of drugs
US prosecutors have opened an investigation into a case investigating the role of Meta in facilitating or profiting from the sale of drugs. |
U.S. prosecutors in the state of Virginia are investigating whether social media owned by the Meta company facilitated and profited from drug sales.
The Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources familiar with the matter, that prosecutors sent subpoenas last year and asked questions as part of a grand jury investigation.
The report also states that prosecutors have asked Meta to provide them with content related to drug sales published on its platform.
Meta’s spokesperson said in response to this report: “Selling drugs is against our policies.” Meta actively cooperates with law enforcement authorities to combat the sale and distribution of narcotics.”
This is not the first time Facebook’s parent company has been taken to court. Last year, complaints were made that Meta administrators had long been aware of widespread human trafficking and child exploitation on Facebook and Instagram, but had failed to address the behavior.
