Maduro ran for president of Venezuela
The current president of Venezuela, with the approval of the United Socialist ruling party of this country, ran again for the presidential elections of Venezuela. |
With the approval of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela, it announced the current president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, as its presidential candidate in the elections to be held on July 28, 2024.
Maduro’s candidacy was already supported by more than four million people in meetings of popular party organizations, local councils and public organizations.
Maduro is running for the third term of the presidency of Venezuela. The Constitution of Venezuela does not set any limits on the number of terms of the president and other elected officials.
61-year-old Maduro has not personally commented on this so far, but he was expected to be the candidate of the ruling party to participate in the presidential election.
In the past weeks, the Election Security Council, after reviewing various proposals of legislators and opposition groups, finally decided on July 28, the birthday of the former president of this country, Hugo Chavez, to hold the presidential election. Legislators affiliated with the Venezuelan government, opposition groups and other groups had proposed different days to hold presidential elections.
The Venezuelan government and opposition agreed last October to hold presidential elections in the second half of 2024, each group would nominate their desired candidate and international observers would monitor it. But some members of the opposition expressed doubt that the Venezuelan government would adhere to this agreement.
