Displacement of more than 7 million people in the Democratic Republic of Congo

The Director of Coordination of the United Nations Humanitarian Office warned about the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Ramesh Rajasingham, Director of Coordination of the United Nations Humanitarian Office, announced on Sunday that the escalation of violence in the east of the republic Democratic Congo has led to the displacement of at least 250,000 people in the last month alone.

This UN official described the situation as a humanitarian crisis and said that it is estimated that one of the The biggest humanitarian crises in the world have displaced 7 million people and it is not possible to help many of them.

Rajasingham warned that the massive influx of displaced people poses challenges beyond the capacity of aid agencies.

Extremist rebels in eastern Congo killed at least 22 civilians in separate attacks in early March. The United Democratic Forces, which is affiliated with the ISIS terrorist group, killed 13 people in the Mombasa region of Congo’s E-Turi province. This extremist group killed at least 11 people with machetes and guns in Kivu province.

Since taking up arms in 2021, the rebels have seized parts of this region in North Kivu. .
