Iran’s human rights monitoring mechanisms are political
In response to the biased report of Javed Rahman against Iran, the representative of Iran stated in the meeting of the Human Rights Council: Iran's human rights monitoring mechanism is unjustifiable and lacks any legitimate, just and justified basis. |
according to the foreign policy group Tasnim news agency, Sumiya Karimdoost, the human rights adviser of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Geneva, this Monday at the Human Rights Council meeting on Iran, in response to the biased report of Javed Rahman, the so-called special rapporteur for human rights of the United Nations on Iranian affairs, said: The Islamic Republic of Iran has fabricated the mechanism that is the product of this report. And it distorts, it does not recognize, a mechanism that is fundamentally flawed, without the consent of the relevant government and imposed on the Council as part of an organized campaign against my country, can hardly have a valid result.
Karimdoost further clarified: This is just a political program by the sponsoring actors of this delegation to extend the mission and maintain the vicious cycle over and over again; Those who are complicit in the Gaza genocide alongside the occupying Palestinian regime, and this in itself shows how valid their claims are regarding human rights!
He also asked this question. As to whether the report, if at all, will contribute to the promotion and protection of human rights, he clarified: “This is not what the main sponsoring countries care about.” They know very well that the mechanism they have created is essentially a recipe for confrontation, preventing the Council from any meaningful discussion and discouraging the target government from any fruitful engagement.
Iran Representative In addition, he said: This report is neither factual nor professional, let alone logical, fair and balanced, and also reflects Iran’s continuous progress in promoting and protecting human rights, as well as the challenges it has overcome. This report is completely one-sided and misleading.
Karimdoost also stated: This report, in many ways, goes far beyond the limits of the code of conduct that is supposed to be legal and The ethics of any mechanism, including those that are imposed on the council through non-consensual resolutions, should be respected. This is a violation of the resolution of the Human Rights Council on the treatment of persons entitled to the special procedures of the Human Rights Council. “Every year, immediately after receiving the draft, we read the report and submit our detailed comments on each claim,” he emphasized: “It is strange that almost all our comments are ignored. This report has been published among all permanent missions in Geneva and the Office of the High Commissioner, which is expected to be published on the website of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
Iran’s human rights monitoring mechanism is unjustified and lacks any legitimate, just and justified basis, it is inherently political and biased, and it has the opposite effect by being hostile to Iran and spreading negative stereotypes about my country. We regret that the mandate holder, a British citizen, has been required to act as the pen holder to justify the mandate imposed on the Council by the UK government and other stakeholders.
Representative Human Rights Counsel Iran added in Geneva: We thank all those who oppose the politicization of the Council. Major supporters must stop instrumentalizing the Council for political gains. Despite this, we are still determined to support the cause of human rights, nothing will distract us from strengthening our institutions and improving the legal, judicial and administrative infrastructure to promote and protect human rights.
Karimdoost finally stated: Iran will continue its valuable engagement with human rights mechanisms, including the UPR, special procedures, treaty bodies and the Human Rights Council.
