According to media reports, Romania will host the construction of the largest NATO military base in Europe. Because NATO is looking to strengthen its capabilities in the Black Sea region due to Russia’s activities there.
The $2.7 billion project will be developed at the 57th Air Force Base of the Romanian Air Force near the Black Sea port city of Constanța. This new NATO base will house about 10,000 NATO soldiers.
Romania has long been the main center of NATO operations in the Black Sea region. Since the beginning of the war between Russia and Ukraine, thousands of American troops have been stationed in this country to carry out training and security missions.
The Euronews network recently reported that work has begun on the base’s main infrastructure, such as access roads and the power grid. Also, several new runways are supposed to be built in this base to support the operations of all kinds of military aircraft.
