Head of UNRWA: To prevent famine in Gaza, it is necessary to reopen land crossings

Philipp Lazzarini called for the reopening of the border crossings to Gaza to deal with the famine in this strip.

The Relief and Employment Agency for Palestinian Refugees known as UNRWA (UNRWA) is the largest organization that is responsible for providing organized relief to the people of Gaza. However, in order to intensify the pressure on the Palestinians, the Zionist authorities stopped Western countries, including the United States, from providing aid to this UN agency by making baseless accusations against UNRWA. An issue that has led to the aggravation of hunger in Gaza.

According to Al Jazeera, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met UNRWA head Philippe Lazzarini in Cairo today (Monday) and assured him that Egypt will fully support UNRWA.

Ahmed Abu Zeid, the spokesman of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, said in this regard: Shukri emphasized the need for Israel to remove obstacles to the arrival of relief aid and called for an end to the tactic of creating famine and collective punishment of people in Gaza.

However, in this meeting, there was no mention of reopening the Rafah crossing, the only land crossing for the entry and exit of Palestinians.

In this meeting, Lazzarini also pointed to the risk of widespread hunger and famine in Gaza, which could significantly increase the number of civilian casualties, and said: The only solution to prevent this is to reopen more border crossings and send large quantities of food items. It is so narrow.

In the end, he emphasized: Time is now very important and seconds are decisive in this context.
