Kidnapping of 87 civilians by armed groups in Nigeria

Armed militias attacked a village in northern Nigeria and kidnapped 87 civilians.

Africa is considered the poorest continent among other continents. Drought and unfavorable climatic conditions are only part of the problems of the Black Continent. The absence of a powerful central government and the inability to establish security throughout the country causes the emergence of various militias and terrorist groups in these regions, which increases the severity of local poverty.

According to the Reuters news agency, local sources announced that gunmen in Nigeria today (Monday) kidnapped at least 87 people, including women and children, in Kaduna state of this country.

Today’s action is the first round of escalation of tensions in this country after the kidnapping of 286 students and school staff in early March of this year.

Mansoor Hassan, the spokesperson of the Kaduna state police, told the media: This action took place in Kajura village on Sunday night and early Monday morning. Now the security forces are trying to free the hostages by deploying in the place.

He added: 87 people were kidnapped in this incident. However, 5 residents managed to escape from the militia and return to their homes. This is the fifth attack of armed groups on this village.

The villagers say that late last night, armed people wearing military uniforms entered the village secretly. They had parked their cars outside the village to avoid attracting attention.

This village is located 10 kilometers from the Nigerian Buddhist community, where armed groups kidnapped 61 of their members in March.

Abduction of civilians and demand for ransom is one of the most common ways to generate income among armed groups in Nigeria, especially in the north of the country. The central government of Nigeria has very weak powers in the northern regions of the country.
