Pashinyan: To prevent war, a more precise border with Azerbaijan should be drawn
The Prime Minister of Armenia said: "Yervan should draw a more precise border with the Republic of Azerbaijan in Tavush province to prevent war." |
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in a meeting with the residents of Tavush border province: Our policy is to prevent war, not to start it. Therefore, we have decided to agree to draw a more precise border in these areas. We do this not only for the benefit of the Republic of Armenia, but also for the villages of the region to ensure their safety.
A few days ago, Pashinyan stated that Armenia plans to build new road sections on the border with the Republic of Azerbaijan to replace the roads that now pass through the territory of Azerbaijan, including a road in the northeast of Tavush province near Vaskpar.
He also said that Yerevan had previously considered the possibility of exchanging equal parts of its territory with Azerbaijan in order to maintain control of the entire road, but abandoned these plans in order not to create more ambiguity.
According to him, now the Armenian authorities are planning to rebuild the neglected part of the Armenian territory. The Prime Minister of Armenia also did not reject the beginning of the process of redrawing the boundaries of the two countries in Tavush province.
According to Sputnik news agency, the Armenian authorities admit that the border demarcation with the Republic of Azerbaijan may need to take into account “specific territorial entities”, such as the Armenian region of “Artsvashan” on the territory of Azerbaijan and several areas enclosed by the Republic of Azerbaijan in Armenia. have.
Yervan claims that the Republic of Azerbaijan controls 31 villages that were part of the “Republic of Armenia” in the former Soviet Union. At the same time, the Armenian opposition considers the transfer of the enclosed areas of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Baku unacceptable, because the roads connecting Armenia to Georgia and Iran pass through some of them.
