Beth Bechdahl, a member of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, announced on Tuesday that in the 20 years that she has been publishing reports on food security, this is the extent of the deterioration of food security in Gaza. It is unprecedented.
This UN official noted that the report on severe lack of food security has three levels. Level 3 is considered a crisis, level 4 is considered an emergency, and level 5 is considered a disaster that may lead to famine.
Currently, one million and one hundred thousand people, equivalent to half of the population of Gaza, are in the category of “facing level 5”, which means that these households are facing a severe lack of food. and are not able to provide most of their basic needs.
Bechdal warned that the people of Gaza are starving and are facing a significant risk of severe malnutrition and ultimately death.
He reminded that in the December report of this organization, it was announced that famine in Gaza is likely, but now famine is declared imminent in the Gaza Strip.
