Pyongyang announced early Wednesday that it had successfully tested a solid-fuel engine for a new type of intermediate-range hypersonic ballistic missile. |
North Korea’s Central News Agency wrote that the test of a solid-fuel engine for a new type of intermediate-range hypersonic ballistic missile was conducted on Tuesday by the North Korean Missile Administration at the Suhae Satellite Launch Center.
This news agency added that Kim praised the “military and strategic value” of this weapon system.
On January 14 (24th), North Korea tested a supersonic medium-range missile with solid fuel.
In its latest action, this country fired several ballistic missiles on Monday morning at the same time as US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken visited South Korea.
The North Korean army has held military exercises using conventional weapons in recent weeks, most of which were conducted under the personal supervision of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
North Korea’s show of strength comes as the US and South Korea recently held a 10-day joint exercise.
Seoul announced that it used marines, attack helicopters and amphibious combat vehicles in this annual joint exercise with the United States.
According to South Korean officials, the country also increased its forces to strengthen the defense of the country’s western islands near North Korea, which were bombed by Pyongyang in 2010.
