America tested a hypersonic weapon
| The US Air Force announced early Wednesday that it had successfully tested an air-launched hypersonic weapon over the Pacific Ocean. |
According to Reuters, the US Air Force said in a statement that the test of an airborne hypersonic weapon was carried out on Sunday by a B-52 bomber that took off from the island of Guam.
The statement added that the B-52 bomber fired an “Airborne Rapid Response Weapon” (ARRW) and the test was successful.
The US Air Force did not release more details about this, but in previous tests it was announced that the ARRW had at least five times the speed of sound.
The high speed and maneuverability of hypersonic weapons makes it difficult to track and intercept.
America is not the only country that works in the field of developing hypersonic weapons. American military officials have claimed that Russia has targeted targets in Ukraine with hypersonic missiles.
These officials have said that China has also tested hypersonic weapons, but Beijing denied the claim in October.
