mine explosion in southwest Pakistan; 12 miners died

An official of Pakistan announced today (Wednesday) that 12 miners died and 8 others were rescued due to an explosion in a coal mine in the southwest of the country.

A mining inspector said that the bodies of the dead were found after the accident in a mine in the “Harnai” area located in Baluchistan province of Pakistan.

He emphasized that an investigation has been started at the site to investigate the cause of the explosion.

According to the Associated Press report, safety standards are usually low in the coal mining industry in Pakistan, leading to accidents and explosions that kill dozens of mine workers every year. Miners also often complain about the lack of installation of safety equipment by the owners.
