The president of Vietnam resigned
Vietnam's president has resigned after a year in office, state media announced, following the start of a sweeping corruption-related cleanup. |
Vietnamese media reported that Vietnamese President Dou Van Tuong accused himself of wrongdoing and his resignation was accepted by the Central Committee of the ruling Communist Party.
Figaro wrote: The remarkable fall of this 53-year-old man happens while Vietnam is undergoing deep political changes. Meanwhile, the former president was removed as part of the fight against corruption, several ministers were fired, and business leaders were tried for fraud and corruption.
Vietnam’s official news agency said the president violated (unspecified) regulations and failed to be an exemplary head of state.
Vu Van Tuong became president on March 2, 2023 after the unexpected resignation of Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
