According to Al-Mayadeen report, the US State Department has notified the Congress of its agreement to sell 50 M1A2 Abrams tanks to Bahrain.
The US State Department statement said that this tank sale contract “will enhance Bahrain’s capabilities to respond to current and future threats by providing a reliable deterrent, and the ability to participate in regional operations with the United States and other US partner countries. increases.”
Congress can vote to block the deal within 30 days, but it usually approves most military deals. Abrams tanks, which are among the most powerful tanks in the world, are considered the main pillar of the American army.
The US State Department reported that about 30 American contractors and a government official will be sent to Bahrain for a period of up to 5 years to teach Bahrain how to use these tanks.
Bahrain hosts the US Navy’s 5th Fleet and is classified as a major ally. Last September, the Biden administration signed a new agreement with Bahrain to strengthen defense and economic ties, including increased intelligence sharing between the two countries.
