Burrell: Without America, it will be difficult to help Ukraine

The European Union's foreign policy official admitted that without the presence of the United States, it would be difficult for the European Union to help Ukraine.

Joseph Borrell, the European Union’s foreign policy official, emphasized that if America stops supporting Ukraine, it will be difficult for the European Union to allocate the 50 billion euros promised to Kiev.

Borrell said in an interview with the French newspaper Sud Ouest: “If this becomes a reality, the situation will be very difficult. It is difficult to imagine that we will allocate 50 billion euros”.

The European Union foreign policy official added: “Of course, this will be possible if there is political will, but the European Union must be more creative.”

On Wednesday morning, Burrell said that he has submitted his proposal to the European Union countries to use the revenues from frozen Russian assets to provide military aid to Ukraine.

Borrell said he plans to use 90% of the proceeds from the frozen Russian assets in the EU to buy weapons for Ukraine and 10% to finance the production of European weapons for it.

The EU foreign policy official also suggested that the remaining 10 percent be transferred to the EU budget to be used to increase the potential of Ukraine’s defense industry.

He noted: It is up to the EU member states to decide on these measures.
