The request of 19 American senators to Biden for the establishment of a Palestinian state
A group of representatives of the US Senate have written a letter to the president of this country demanding the formation of an independent Palestinian state. |
19 lawmakers from the Democratic Party in the US Senate called for the formation of an independent Palestinian state in a letter to Joe Biden, the president of their country.
This letter was written while the aftershocks of the harsh criticism of “Chuck Schumer”, the leader of the majority party in the Senate, of “Benjamin Netanyahu’s” policies and his management of the war are still continuing. “Tom Carper”, who is one of Joe Biden’s political allies and a Delaware state legislator, was the originator of the said letter.
American lawmakers have asked Biden to go beyond “facilitation” in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations and to introduce a “bold framework” to define the necessary measures for the establishment of a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Borrowing from Bill Clinton’s plan for the past two decades, they have said that an independent Palestinian state would be “without an army” if formed. In addition, US lawmakers have called for a plan to integrate Israel in the region, referring to the efforts to advance reconciliation talks between Saudi Arabia and Israel.
In the past months, White House officials have repeatedly supported the formation of a Palestinian state without an army as a type of two-state solution.
U.S. President Joe Biden last February, after being questioned by reporters about Benjamin Netanyahu’s opposition to the two-state solution, said that he had talked to Netanyahu about this and it seems that he agrees with “all two-state solutions.” “Government” has no objection.
After reporters asked Biden to explain his meaning more clearly, he said: “There are several types of two-state solutions. Some countries that are members of the United Nations do not have an army… There are some countries that have restrictions; So I think there are ways to move things forward.”
The issue of forming a Palestinian state without an army has been discussed for a long time, and even 10 years ago, in the midst of negotiations with the mediation of the United States to resolve the conflicts between Palestine and Israel, it was claimed that “Mahmoud Abbas”, the head of the Palestinian Authority, wanted to establish a Palestinian state without He accepted the army in exchange for some concessions. Despite this, the said plan failed at that time.
