China demanded that the US not interfere in Hong Kong’s internal affairs

The Chinese Embassy in Washington, by releasing a statement posted on the embassy’s website, stressed that Beijing strongly opposes the US response to discredit and smear against Hong Kong’s new security law. It was approved this week, it is opposed.

According to the Reuters news agency, the Chinese embassy responded to the statement of the US State Department and said that Beijing wants the US to respect China’s sovereignty and immediately stop interfering in the affairs of Hong Kong and China’s internal affairs.

Hong Kong lawmakers on Tuesday unanimously approved a new law on national security that provides for penalties such as life in prison for crimes related to treason and sedition, and up to 20 years in prison for stealing state secrets. This law has been approved while the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union have previously warned about its impact on freedoms in Hong Kong.
