Action by American lawmakers to ban UNRWA funding

American lawmakers have announced that the US government's $1.2 trillion budget "should not be used for financial aid or other payments" to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA).

According to “Al Jazeera English”, lawmakers released this plan as a condition to prevent the shutdown of the US government at midnight on Friday. If an agreement is not reached to continue financing the American government by Friday night, three quarters of the government will face a lack of funds and will be shut down.

The US President Joe Biden’s administration had previously suspended UNRWA funding. This is while America claimed that the activity of this agency in Gaza is very valuable.

Philip Lazzarini, the head of UNRWA, called the measures related to the suspension of the agency’s funding “additional collective punishment” for the Palestinians.

The White House asked the United Nations after the Israeli regime accused 12 employees of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees, known as UNRWA, of being involved in the attacks on October 7, 2023 and participating in the Al-Aqsa storm operation by Hamas. conduct clear and comprehensive research on this matter.

John Kirby, spokesman and coordinator of strategic communications of the National Security Council of the White House, said earlier about the accusations against 12 employees of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA): Our demand is that the investigation of UNRWA be complete and transparent.

Palestinian resistance groups started the “Al-Aqsa Storm” operation from Gaza (southern Palestine) against the positions of the Israeli regime on October 15, 2023, which finally ended on December 3, 1402 (November 24, 2023) after 45 days of fighting. A four-day temporary cease-fire was established between Hamas and the Zionist regime.

This pause in the war continued for seven days and finally on the morning of Friday 10 Azar (December 1, 2023), the temporary ceasefire ended and the Israeli regime resumed attacks against Gaza.

In order to retaliate against the “Al-Aqsa Storm” attacks, compensate for its defeat and stop resistance operations, this regime has closed the crossings of the Gaza Strip and is bombarding this area.
