According to West Asia Eye, Rania Amin, a Canadian undergraduate student who started an indefinite hunger strike on February 19, is in stable condition and under observation. Rania is one of two students who are currently on an indefinite hunger strike to demand that the university end its investments with companies that directly or indirectly support the Zionist Army, as well as end its affiliation with four Israeli universities.
Meanwhile, about 15 other students have also participated in the hunger strike since February 28, albeit in turns. According to hunger strike organizers, McGill University currently has about $20 million invested in several Zionist companies, including Safran, a French aerospace and defense company, and Lockheed Martin, an American company that has sold fighter jets to Israel.
According to the English newspaper Tribune, in a McGill University Student Association referendum that ended on November 20, 35.1 percent of undergraduate students participated. Students voted with an overwhelming majority of 78.7% to approve the anti-genocide policy in Palestine.
The Tribune also noted that the anti-genocide policy in Palestine proposed by the students calls on the McGill University Student Association to call on the university to condemn the Israeli blockade of Gaza, divest companies that support the regime, and sever ties with Zionist universities. to put under pressure.
One of the students, who wanted to be introduced only by his first name “Shadi”, has been on an indefinite hunger strike for the past 22 days. Shadi told West Asia Eye that he started the strike because he did not want to participate in the Zionist crime or normalize relations with an apartheid country.
