The discovery of 5 bodies of asylum seekers by the Tunisian Coast Guard

The Tunisian Coast Guard announced that it has discovered the bodies of 5 refugees who drowned in the Mediterranean Sea.

Mediterranean sea is the deadliest sea for asylum seekers. African refugees usually seek to reach Italy from Libya and Tunisia with the help of small boats. However, the rudimentary nature of these boats and the loading of refugees beyond the capacity of the boats lead to their overturning and sinking.

According to the Reuters news agency, the Tunisian Coast Guard announced today (Monday) the discovery of the bodies of 5 more refugees near the shores of this country. In this way, the number of asylum seekers killed in the coastal waters of this country reached 11 people in the last week.

Upon announcing this news, the Tunisian authorities emphasized: In recent weeks, our coast guard has managed to save 663 illegal asylum seekers who were trying to reach Italy from Tunisia or Libya with the aim of crossing the Mediterranean Sea. With the improvement of weather conditions, the attempt of asylum seekers to use the sea route to reach Europe has increased.

Gorgia Meloni, the right-wing prime minister of Italy, had previously announced at the European Union meeting that if the flood of African refugees to this country is not considered, this issue could lead to a crisis similar to the 2015 refugee crisis in the green continent.

The European Union is looking to support African countries with coasts on the Mediterranean Sea to prevent a flood of refugees from entering the continent.
