report Mehr News Agency quoted from Al Jazeera, after a decade-long investigation into the assassination of Tunisian opposition leader Shukri Balaid in 2013, four people were sentenced to death and two to life imprisonment.

After the overthrow of “Zine El Abidine Ben Ali” in 2011 and in the first movements known as the “Arab Spring”, Balaid’s assassination was considered a fatal blow to the fragile democracy that It was established in Tunisia after many years.

The slow process of dealing with this case gradually brought accusations against the then ruling party of Tunisia, “Ennahda”, and later, Qais Said, the current president of this country. He used these accusations to gain power.

The verdict of the court was issued today after 15 hours of investigation and deliberation, and a total of 23 people were sentenced to imprisonment from 2 to 120 years and five people were acquitted.

Qais Saeed dismissed dozens of judges in June 2022, some of whom were accused of obstructing the investigation of this case.
