Lavrov: Armenian leaders seek to disrupt relations with Russia
Sergey Lavrov said that Armenian leaders are trying to disrupt relations with Moscow using unrealistic excuses. |
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in a statement on Thursday: “If we want to be honest, Armenia is ruining the history of the past three and a half years between the two countries.”
He continued: The leaders of this country are deliberately seeking to disrupt relations with the Russian Federation with unrealistic excuses. Relations between Armenia and Russia have declined. Yerevan is unhappy that Moscow did not offer the promised support to Armenia when Azerbaijan regained control of Nagorno-Karabakh.
These statements of Lavrov come in the context that Armenia, which has hostile relations with Turkey and the Republic of Azerbaijan, is looking for new security partners in the West, such as France. Also, Yerevan is no longer an active member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in which Russia is at the head.
The Prime Minister of Armenia also announced last month that Armenia will cancel the protection agreement with the Russian border guards stationed at the main airport of Armenia from August 1st.
