Japan, America and the Philippines plan to patrol the South China Sea
Reports indicate that the United States, Japan, and the Philippines are planning to start patrolling the South China Sea, which is likely to provoke a reaction from Beijing. |
Informed sources have reported that the US, Japan and the Philippines will start joint naval patrols in the South China Sea this year, but the exact date is not yet known.
According to Politico, an official familiar with the program said that the naval exercises of the three countries are part of an initiative package that the presidents of the United States and the Philippines and the prime minister of Japan will unveil in their first tripartite meeting next month.
It is believed that this action will result in a strong reaction from Beijing.
Furthermore, the US is expected to announce that it is seriously considering Japan’s membership in the “ACOS” treaty. ACOS is a trilateral military agreement between the US, UK and Australia, according to which the US and UK will help Australia develop and deploy nuclear submarines.
While the US and the Philippines have conducted joint patrols in the past, this is the first time the Japanese Navy has joined them in doing so.
This joint operation will increase the risk of a possible confrontation with Chinese forces in the region.
