A massive fire at an Indonesian army ammunition dump outside the country’s capital, Jakarta, caused several explosions.
According to the Reuters news agency, local authorities announced the dispatch of several firefighting teams to the place to extinguish the fire. However, a huge cloud of smoke now covers Jakarta’s sky.
According to local media, no one has been killed or injured in this incident. Mohammad Hassan, an Indonesian military official, said the fire initially broke out in a section of the ammunition dump where expired ammunition was stored. We checked the place and its surroundings and there were no casualties.
He told the media about the reason for the fire: Expired ammunition contains chemicals that can be unstable. In this case, the slightest friction can lead to a fire. Firefighters have been trying to put out the fire for several hours.
The sound of the explosion caused by the fire in this munitions slum can be heard from several kilometers away. Such a column of smoke has now darkened a wide area of the sky. So far, the local authorities have evacuated the people near the incident to prevent possible casualties.
