The US is looking to increase its production of artillery shells as it tries to supply Ukraine with the ammunition it needs. Therefore, it has started negotiations to increase the volume of purchasing explosives from Turkey.
According to Turkish sources, negotiations with the US regarding the purchase of trinitrotoluene known as TNT and nitroguanidine, which are used to make artillery shells and will be very important for the production of 155mm shells, have been announced. According to officials familiar with the negotiations, production could triple.
Turkey is on track to become the largest seller of artillery shells to the United States this year.
Russia’s two-year war with Ukraine has fueled global demand for munitions, with Western allies looking to supply Kiev with munitions first, although they too need to replenish depleted stockpiles. According to the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the surge in demand has led to delays in the fulfillment of orders in the global market and has put pressure on defense supply chains, particularly parts such as TNT.
