The defeat of Erdogan’s party in the Turkish municipal elections

The Turkish municipal elections ended with the impressive victory of the opposition of the ruling party.

Turkey’s local and municipal elections were held on Sunday, November 12. It was held out of 61 million people eligible to vote, and it ended with the victory of the People’s Republic Party in the important cities of the country, including Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Hatay, Bursa, Antalya and Adana.

The People’s Republic Party won more than 37% of the votes in the municipalities, ahead of the ruling party which had won 36% of the votes, and became the first party in Turkey for the first time after about 50 years.

Erdogan also accepted this defeat and said: We got the nation’s message from the ballot boxes. We evaluate the results of the elections and boldly pursue self-criticism.

Stating that there are 4 years left until 2028, which is the next round of presidential elections, he said: “During this period, we will try to make up for our mistakes.”

Also, the Re-Prosperity Party led by Fatih Erbakan managed to win 6% of the votes and became the third party in this election.
