Russia: The accusations against us regarding the Havana syndrome are baseless
The Kremlin Palace reacted to the claims of the Western media about Russia's role in the Havana syndrome. |
Havana syndrome is one of the strangest syndromes that first affected the employees of the American and Canadian embassies in Cuba. Although the main reason for the occurrence of this syndrome is not yet known, the finger of accusation has recently been pointed towards Russia.
According to the Reuters news agency, the Kremlin today (Monday) denied the reports published about the involvement of the Russian intelligence agency behind the scenes of the Havana syndrome, which has affected American diplomats and spies around the world.
Recently, the Insider magazine quoted a research team in Riga, the capital of Lithuania, in a report claiming that some members of a Russian military intelligence unit named 29155 were present at the place where American government employees were involved in the Havana syndrome.
The Insider and the German publication Spiegel claim in a report that this Russian intelligence unit has received an award and been promoted due to the development of a non-lethal sound weapon.
Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman of the Kremlin Palace, in response to the accusations made by the Western media, declared: These accusations are not a new issue at all. For years, we have been witnessing the exaggeration of the Havana syndrome in the media, and from the very beginning, the finger of accusation was pointed towards Russia.
He pointed out: Nevertheless, none of the parties has tried to provide acceptable evidence about these accusations. Therefore, these cases are nothing but baseless claims that are published in the form of unsubstantiated accusations by the Western media.
A US intelligence investigation released last year found it highly unlikely that a foreign enemy was responsible for the syndrome.
