Draft resolution of the UN Human Rights Council for an arms embargo on Israel

Accordingly, this council intends to consider sanctions for sending weapons to this regime during the draft that will be presented on Friday due to what Israel has committed in Gaza. If this resolution is approved, this will be the first time in the last 6 months that the Human Rights Council takes a position on the Gaza war.

This draft states: We condemn the use of explosive weapons with high destructive power by the Israeli army in the densely populated areas of Gaza and ask Tel Aviv to adhere to its legal obligation to prevent genocide in this strip. .

The 8-page draft adds: We call on Israel to end its occupation of Palestinian land and immediately lift the illegal restrictions imposed on the Gaza Strip. We ask the countries of the world to stop selling weapons, ammunition and military equipment to Tel Aviv, because the risk of genocide in Gaza is likely.

The proposed draft also condemns the use of mass starvation as a weapon of war by Israel and calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Also, Israel’s actions, which may be considered ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians, have been strongly condemned.

This draft was prepared by Pakistan on behalf of 55 of the 56 members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
