Oman intends to buy the French Rafale fighter
French sources announced that Oman is negotiating with the Rafale fighter company to purchase a number of these French fighters. |
Oman is negotiating with the French company Dassault Aviation to buy Rafale fighter jets, a move that could change the direction of the country’s air fleet.
The French military website Meta Defense reported, citing multiple sources, that there are talks between Muscat and Paris regarding the conclusion of a contract based on which the Persian Gulf country will purchase the latest advanced version of the Rafale fighter jets.
Oman wants to strengthen its air force due to the instability the region is going through, although its relations with all countries are stable.
Oman has an air force consisting of 12 European Eurofighter fighters and 22 American F-16 fighters. Dassault Aviation is reportedly cautiously optimistic about the possibility of completing the deal, acknowledging that ongoing discussions with Omani authorities are ongoing.
Dassault is focusing on completing its current commitments to deliver Rafale aircraft, including major contracts with the United Arab Emirates (80 aircraft), and Indonesia (42 aircraft).
If this deal is completed, France will begin to occupy a major position in arms sales in the West Asia, especially the Persian Gulf. On the other hand, it was previously revealed that Saudi Arabia is considering the purchase of Rafale fighters in a deal that may be a record.
